INDY ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE HISTORY

Exploring the history of environmental justice in our city within a global context

IUPUI is proud to be a partner in the Humanities Action Lab's initiative on climate and environmental justice. This global project aims to confront the dual denials of climate change and environmental/climate injustice; create a learning community that includes leaders from migration, environmental justice, climate change, gender justice, and other intersecting fields; open national conversation on migration and environmental/climate justice; serve as a laboratory for new experiments in public education/communication and civic engagement around these issues; and support the work of advocates and policymakers around these issues.

"In the community I've grown up in, environmental justice is often grounded in injustice and people who have conditions that have been brought on by inequitable relations to power. In a word, state violence...that often impacts poor communities, people of color."

Imhotep Adisa, Executive Director and co-founder, Kheprw Institute
